TRV or eTA: What Do You Need To Visit Canada?

Before preparing your application, you must first determine whether you need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA):

You need a TRV if:

You’re from a visa-required country
You plan to enter Canada by land, sea, or air

You need an eTA if:

You are a citizen of a visa-exempt country (e.g., most EU countries, Japan, South Korea, Australia, UK)
You will enter Canada by air (not land or sea)
You are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
If you need a TRV, continue below for full eligibility details and documentation requirements.
Once your visitor category is confirmed - whether you're a business visitor, a regular attendee, or a member of the organizing team - here is a general guide and our tips that applies to all types of event visitors to help you prepare for your trip to Canada:
