Since 1995, the government of the USA annually distributes about 55,000 Green Cards randomly among citizens of other countries.
According to the conditions, in order to participate in the Green Card lottery, applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
The participant must have been born in a country that is on the list of countries participating in the lottery. The list is determined annually by the US Department of State*.
* The following countries are currently excluded: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, Venezuela, and Vietnam.
