The recent study shows Canadians are still confused over travel insurance

According to the recent study by the Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada (THIA), there’s still some confusion among Canadians when it comes to travel health insurance. The study shows that 13% of Canadians aren’t even sure if they have travel insurance before they go on vacation. Among those who did buy insurance, 17% have no idea what their policy covers and what kind of coverage they have.

First of all, we need to clear it out, that travel insurance and medical travel insurance are not the same. Get familiar with the information on what travel insurance covers.

According to Brad Dance, THIA president, “A broken leg down in California could cost anywhere between US$35,000 to $50,000 in a hospital in California. Your provincial medical plan may contribute somewhere around five percent of that amount.” That’s why medical travel insurance is not only good for your health but also for your wallet. Once they buy travel insurance, travellers should understand their insurance policy, know their health and be aware of their rights and responsibilities within a travel insurance policy.
