The biggest sports events in 2020
The year 2020 will be marked not only as a first year of the new decade but also as a year of the biggest sports events worldwide.
Every year is somewhat special in terms of annual tournaments, championships, and other sports events. However, some major events take place once in a few years, and here is what we have on the list:
1 – EURO 2020: UEFA European Championship
This football competition takes place every 4 years and has been played in multiple European countries. This year it will be played from June 12th to July 12th in 12 countries: Azerbaijan, Denmark, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Ireland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, and Spain. 2 – Summer 2020 Olympic Games
Japan has been preparing for this huge event for the last few years. The host city for the 2020 Olympic Games is Tokyo. Exciting fact is that five new sports have been added to the program in Tokyo: baseball and softball, karate, sport climbing, skateboarding and surfing. The Games will be held from July 24th to August 9th, 2020.
3 – Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG)
The Youth Olympics is an international multi-sport event that is held every four years. The age restriction of the athletes is 14-18 y.o. It will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland from January 9th – January 22nd. Check if you need a visa to Schengen area countries.
4 – ICC World Twenty20
It is the international championship of Twenty20 cricket that takes place every 2 years. In 2020 it will be held in Australia from October 18th to November 15th. Check if you need an Australian visa to travel.
5 – IWAS World Games 2020
The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) have announced that IWAS World Games 2020 will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand from February 20th to February 28th, which is six months before the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
